Is Therapy Worth It?

One of the questions we are often asked at My Practice is: Is therapy worth it? Research has found that counselling can help people achieve greater success in their personal and professional lives, including happier relationships, more fulfilling careers, and financial success. If you are stressed, depressed, having trouble sleeping, or generally feel that your mental health could improve, therapy is an investment worth making.

Our Story

My Practice Counselling Melbourne was founded on the philosophy that counselling should be a unique and transformative experience. We are motivated by a desire to provide you with solutions to life’s most difficult problems. What sets us apart from others in the field is our holistic counselling approach that extends beyond the therapy room. We provide resources, tools, and education to enhance understanding and self-awareness. We believe in empowering you with the knowledge and skills to solve any problem you may be facing.

The Long-Term Effects of Untreated Depression
Jonathan Riley
Depression can feel like a heavy fog that settles over our lives, making everything seem a little more difficult, slower, or less important. Many of us might think we can push through it or wait for it to lift on its own, hoping that things will eventually get better. However, when depression goes untreated, the […]
How Depression Affects Relationships
Jonathan Riley
Depression is something many of us have either experienced ourselves or seen in someone close to us. It’s a condition that touches all parts of life, and one of the areas it can hit the hardest is our relationships. Whether it’s with a partner, family member, friend, or even a co-worker, depression often puts a […]
How Action Overcomes Depression
Jonathan Riley
Depression can feel like a heavy, dark fog that makes everything more difficult. Even simple tasks can seem impossible. We often think that if we could just change our thoughts, we would feel better. We wait for a moment when everything feels right, hoping that this will help us overcome our depression. But in reality, […]
Why Depression Could Be Your Mind’s Call for Help
Jonathan Riley
Depression is often like a dark cloud that makes everything seem hard. But what if we saw it differently? What if depression is a signal from our mind, telling us that something important needs attention? Just like pain from a broken bone shows something is physically wrong, depression can show that something in your life […]
How Toxic Shame Fuels Depression
Jonathan Riley
Depression is often seen as just persistent sadness or a prolonged feeling of being down. However, it’s much more complex than that. There’s an undercurrent to depression that isn’t always visible on the surface, and one of these hidden elements is toxic shame. This isn’t the kind of shame you feel when you forget to […]
Depression is A Signpost, Not the Core Issue
Jonathan Riley
When we experience depression, it’s natural to want to find a way to get rid of it as quickly as possible. The heavy feelings of sadness, emptiness, or hopelessness can be overwhelming, and it’s tempting to think that if we could just stop feeling depressed, everything would be okay. But what if depression is more […]
The Impact of Depression on Our Relationships
Jonathan Riley
Depression doesn’t just affect how we feel inside; it can also have a significant impact on our relationships with those around us. Whether it’s our partners, family, or friends, depression can create barriers that make it harder to connect, communicate, and maintain the bonds that are so important to us. Understanding how depression affects our […]
How Physical Health Problems Can Lead to Depression
Jonathan Riley
When we think about depression, we often focus on the emotional and mental aspects, but our physical health can play a significant role as well. It’s easy to overlook the connection between our bodies and our minds, but the two are closely linked. When we’re dealing with physical health problems, it can have a significant […]
The Link Between Depression and Anxiety
Jonathan Riley
When we talk about mental health, depression and anxiety often come up together. It’s not uncommon for us to experience both at the same time, and it can be confusing to understand how they’re connected. We might wonder if one causes the other or if they’re just two sides of the same coin. Understanding the […]
How Stress Can Lead to Depression
Jonathan Riley
We often hear about how stress affects our lives, from making us feel anxious to causing physical health problems. But what about its connection to depression? Can stress really lead us down the path to depression? The answer is yes, and it’s something that many of us may experience without even realising it. Understanding how […]

    Do I Need Therapy?

Life is full of ups and downs, problems and challenges. It’s common to wonder if you actually need therapy. Admitting that you need help and reaching out can help you get back on track. Going to therapy isn’t a sign of weakness or something to be ashamed of. It’s also important to understand that you don’t need to have a diagnosed mental health condition in order to benefit from therapy.
